Here are five very simple ways to improve the most important room in your house; the kitchen.
1. Replace the Faucets
One of the first things people see in your kitchen will be the sink. And the part of the sink that ages most quickly is the faucets. When they look old and out of date, you don’t need to replace the whole sink though. That would be a waste of energy and money. So, you should simply replace the faucets instead. It’s such a cheap and easy thing to do, but it really does make a difference to how your kitchen looks. Your kitchen will instantly look a little more modern and up to date than before.
2. Paint the Cabinets
Are you bored of your dull cabinets? There’s no need to stick with that boring wood effect, so why not try something new? It can be as simple as buying a tin of paint and painting over the wood. It will instantly give your kitchen cabinets some new life, and that’s exactly what’s needed. Choose a color that fits in with the existing design of your kitchen, and don’t choose one that’s too overwhelming. You don’t want to overpower the room, so a simple and muted color is probably best.
3. Making the Dining Table the Centrepiece
If you ask me, the dining table should be the centrepiece. It’s where everyone gets together to eat, and it should be the hub of the room and the home. So, if your dining table has seen better days or it doesn’t meet your needs, change it! Invest in a large table that can fit plenty of people around it. You can buy oak tables for decent prices these days, and there’s no reason why they can’t last for decades. If you buy a strong and sturdy one, it will serve you well for a long, long time to come.
4. Upgrade Commonly Used Items
Most of the things that you use most often in your kitchen are not the expensive items. They are the small items that get worn down more quickly and easily. So, if you want to improve your kitchen, you should upgrade those items that you use most often. From a practical point of view, it’s this that will have the biggest impact. You need to buy smartly though. So, when you buy a new frying pan, make sure it has a PTFE coating. This will stop things sticking to it when you use it.
5. Add New Lighting
The lighting in your kitchen is one of the most important features. If the room isn’t lit properly, you won’t be able to get the atmosphere right and it won’t be safe. You need to have adequate overhead lighting to start with. This will provide the majority of the light in the room, so make sure that it reaches every corner. But you will also need extra lights to help you when you’re cooking. For example, you can add some small lights underneath the cabinets and above the countertops. This will help you when you’re reading recipes and chopping vegetables.
